Ingredients

  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder

Sandwich Assembly

  • 8 slices bread sourdough, rye, or brioche, toasted if preferred
  • 4 leaves lettuce

  • 4 slices cooked turkey bacon optional
  • 1 tablespoon capers drained, optional
  • 0.25 cup red bell pepper finely diced, optional

Instructions

  • Drain the canned tuna thoroughly to remove excess liquid and prevent a soggy sandwich.
  • Place the drained tuna in a medium mixing bowl and use a fork to flake it into small pieces.
  • Add the mayonnaise, celery, onion, mustard, relish, lemon juice, and garlic powder to the bowl.
  • Fold the ingredients together with a rubber spatula until the tuna is evenly coated and the mixture is well combined.
  • Gently stir in the fresh parsley, chives, and any optional add-ins like capers or red bell pepper.
  • Season the salad with salt and black pepper to taste.
  • Layer lettuce leaves onto the bread slices to create a barrier that keeps the bread crisp.
